Akon may not have the biggest hit single right now, but his humanitarian efforts are top 40 in the eyes of the world. After devoting his time to bring electricity to Africa, he is now looking to spread the power of light worldwide.
Akon has already made electricity possible for over 600 million people throughout Africa. Now he plans to donate more electricity to Latin America. Akon met with Antonio Carlos Magalhães, the mayor of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil to propose his solar-powered electricity efforts to the poor communities in his state.
Spending his early life in Senegal, it's no wonder that Akon feels a connection to help out his hometown. This charity work is keeping this singer far away from any kind of bad reputation.

Thanks to Akon's efforts, many people living within poor communities now have access to light.
This is making it much safer and easier for people to work at night and
commute safely from place to place. Before they had access to this
electricity, life in these poor communities would pause after the sun
goes down. With the addition of this light, people can achieve much more.
